How to Care for Your Palms With Sunniland | Sunniland Corporation
Palm trees are a staple among Florida landscapes. While they make for beautiful landscaping, they can require more attention than some might think. Florida’s sandy soils can be the cause for nutritional deficiencies in your palms, but with a regulated schedule of Sunniland’s specially formulated fertilizers and soil amendments, you can ensure your palms stay beautiful and healthy. This post details our recommendations for fertilizer and how to maintain healthy growth and color of your palms.

Sunniland Palm Fertilizer 6-1-8

Give your palms a boost of nutrition by applying Sunniland Palm Fertilizer. This fertilizer is formulated to meet the specific needs of palms, cycads, ixoras and other acid loving plants. It contains manganese, magnesium and iron, which are essential for palm heath, and are not commonly found in Florida soils. This fertilizer also contains 50% slow release nitrogen for continuous feeding, and should be applied every 90 days to maintain the health of your palms.

Apply the correct amount of fertilizer around the base of your trees by following these guidelines.

How to Calculate the Amount of Fertilizer to Apply to Palm Trees

Sunniland Manganese Sulphate

Sunniland’s Manganese Sulphate soil enhancer is used to correct manganese deficiencies in palms and other ornamentals. When there is a manganese deficiency in palms, it is commonly referred to as “frizzle leaf” or “frizzle top.” This condition will start in the newer, younger leaves, causing them to turn yellow and appear frizzled, or distorted. When you spot this problem, apply Sunniland Manganese Sulphate every 2-3 months, or as needed, to correct the deficiency.

Sunniland Magnesium Sulphate

The other nutrient deficiency that can cause yellowing in palms, trees and shrubs is a magnesium deficiency. Unlike Manganese deficiencies, yellowing symptoms from a magnesium deficiency will start in the lower, older leaves of the palm. Applying Sunniland Magnesium Sulphate should restore a luscious green color to your plants.
